I thoroughly enjoy my weekend classes. we did bangra last month and now we have started off with contemporary salsa.
My resolution to wake up by 5.30am is already broken. The best chef I have ever seen and admired is always my Mom and I keep bugging her for her traditional recipes. It is very difficult to get her level of perfection, patience and passion in cooking.
Had all my time for my son, had great fun playing with him, went through the pain/pleasure of putting him in playschool, unlearning-learning things from/with him. explored bit of gardening/interiors etc...(when u really dont know what to do you can always try doing whatever you want to :)
Got time to read few books

God of Small things - enjoyed reading it. Admired the way Arundhati Roy narrates an instance - be in emotional, political, comical, historical in a very beautiful way

Devil in Pinstripes (Ravi Subramanian) - hmm interesting...so thats the secret of IIM tag. they know how to tackle the upper crust politics of any company....

Honor Thyself (Daniel Steel) - good time pass...a typical novel from Daniel but I always enjoy reading hers..

Now reading Amitav Ghosh's 'The Shadow Lines'....

I got time to explore "within" which cant be explained as I am very confused about that at this point of time.
now my peace is slightly getting disturbed as I have to join back soon and get trapped in my routine schedule...:))))

There is a huge hungama going around in my apartment for Women’s Day. (As always they are making the best use of this day….) Lots of fun, chat, shopping and obviously money…
So has the world changed for Women…are we really liberated…do we have equal rights????
The answer might be yes (and we are showing that by celebrating this day!!!!)
The fact is ‘The world remains the same and just women have changed’….
To some extent liberation has helped us to come out of our nut shell and see the real world, explore great opportunities, live our own life etc..etc…But are we doing justice in the roles we play and the great emotions that are built in with us.
I had an excellent childhood days, loving parents, great friends, caring relatives, well wishing neighbors.
This generation is devoid of all these gifts, we have lost it for them in our race behind money.
They are highly influenced by western lifestyle and parents too busy to guide them in their cultural path...
I still remember my mom eagerly waiting for me to come back from school, ready with health drink & Snack the moment I come back after refreshing, interested to hear my school/college stories, ready with proactive advices taking instances of neighbors kids :)
I feel so sad that me being so liberated(!!!) and so much into corporate world now, I will not be in a position to give my son all these small but great happiness....Its good we now have all the freedom to think, talk, act, decide, follow etc etc….but in achieving this we have forgotten the below
**Gentle and pleasant morning/evening time with family
**Family get-together during dinner time.
**Cooking delicious food for family
**Play time with kids during week days… (hard to see them go to day care/play/pre-school)
**Listening time to our parents/in-laws/elders at home
So end of the day we might be good Entrepreneur/Manager/Techy whatsoever but no more a proud HomeMaker/Mom/Wife/Daughter. Some would argue if anyone is best at time management we would manage work-life balance. That is IMPOSSIBLE…you can just decide where and when you would want to compromise what and act accordingly…That’s it…
I envy house wives at times and feel pity on their sacrifices at other instance. Envy them for having to spend more time with family and pity them for narrowing down the whole world within four walls of their home…(separate topic to be blogged :)
Having discussed all these, now what choice does every women want to take…???
OPEN ENDED QUESTION :)

Book Review - 2States (Chetan Bhagat)

For a change let me start with few comments on author before saying my review about this book
Chetan Bhagat - Budding Indian writer who has given 4 best sellers in a very short span and now entering into Bollywood screenplays/scripts. Being an IIT/IIMA alumini the country would expect more from him than being a writer. He safely escapes saying 'Pen is mightier than sword'...India is in need of more Tatas,Premji's and NarayanaMurthy's than a bollywood screenplay writer. I am not commenting this being so jealous on a person who is lucky to persue his passion, that too being in India. My only point is not to have wasted a costly seat in India's leading institutions. By the way why dont these institutions come up with a rule that their students should serve their country and show a profit of XYZ $ before moving out to any part of the world. All alumini's of IITs/IIMs come out with a notion that they are born and brought up to be slaves of leading MNCs, except for few exceptions. Our Government should also race with other MNCs and be ready to pay more and grab these (so called tagged)smart people.
Ok...coming to the book...its a super cool personal blog published as a book. The author needs special appreciation for his witty and simple style of writing. I feel all his books so far are based on his real life experiences. waiting to see something different from him...
Seen more as a youth icon than just an author, this IIT D/ IIMA graduate is making India read like never before.
This sounds so funny to me- not sure who took the statistics to see how good were Indians in reading before and after Chetan's book releases. Probably being an IIMA alumini he is putting his marketing skills at its best.
Chetan's official website - http://www.chetanbhagat.com/

Kovalam Trip-Oct'09

After almost two and a half years we made a trip to Kerala. Good it was with friends or else we would have ended up eating Puliyogre and Curd rice in kovalam beach with our family. In India the added fun to each tourist spot is the dominance of the state cultures and values(???) they force on them.
We started off from our friends place by 11am (surely not a time to start for sight-seeing but that's how our gang trip works out...the guys take a long time to come out of their hangover and make a plan for the day...Unlike US/UK I cant plan the trip as we dont have maps or any clue to decide on the optimal route. so my job ends in listing out the places I want to see and obviously a long shopping list). after an hours travel we reached "Padmanabhapuram palace" just to get disappointed seeing the board 'GOVERNMENT HOLIDAY' - Gandhi Jayanti...!!!! We are so grateful to Bapuji that we close all major tourist spots too, on his birthdays. it sounded so ridiculous to me as anyone's common sense would say, that was the day(weekend) when most of the people would plan such trips...anyway we just sighed off and started our travel to "Thirparappu Falls". Thirparappu Means A Pavilion Of Beauty And Sacredness - It holds good for the falls but not its surroundings. As all other tourist spots of India this was also less maintained with more crowd. The water pressure was so high in the falls as we had heavy downpour that day couple of hours back. I was so worried to even step out of the room as it was still drizzling and if I go out I am gonna make my son get wet in rain for the first time. Luckily after 20min. the drizzling also stopped and my husband(at times reading my mind right) volunteered to baby sit for next half an hour. I rushed out to the falls and had great time playing in water for half an hour. I could see my husband struggling to hold my son from coming to the falls. My son was pointing to me and saying he wanted to go there...:) I quickly changed and took my turn to babysit. As our friend was in a high profile Government job we got a decent room to change our clothes. If that was called 'decent', I was wondering what kind of rooms others were using!!!!

We started off from that place by 6pm and reached a hotel in Trivandrum at 8pm. In "God's own country"-Kerala unless you pay everywhere as if it is "God's own money" you wont get a good reception...:) The next day morning, we started off to "Padmanabhaswamy temple". All guys were against it and all girls instead to visit the temple and traveled with a pride of winning the argument till we reached temple. Already my husband was irritated for deviating a fun trip to pilgrimage trip, he was totally pissed off on seeing the board "Men in dhotis and women in saris"...even I wondered who the hell would have made such rules...but luckily all girls were in saree. My husband was given the most dirtiest dhotis they had and he trying to act smart wore it on top of his pants...One of the pandit saw that and started giving him a long gyan starting "Thambi, intha tem(p)ble-a...." losing his patience and temper my husband stopped him and changed back to only dhoti. my frustration was also increasing as all this drama took 20min and we had only next 15 min for darshan. From 11.30am - 12noon it was nap time for God(/Pandits...) I insisted on making an "archanai" (special prayer to God with all possible special demands). My husband furiously answered me "God is within you, don't try to fool yourself"...Having made the greatest sin for that day I thought I will at least please God by offering Ghee lamp. For 20 bucks the priest gave me a ghee bowl which I have to pour in a big lamp. He said think of all your family members and their nakshatras and pour the ghee. I started with my Dad, Mom (i wondered her memory power of remembering everyone's nakshatra),sister&family,brother&Family,siter-in-law...by the time I reached to my son I heard my husband calling/searching for me. I think I have got this habit from my mom who always has a list of 10+ people with their nakshatras to test the patience of the priest...by the time she would say the 5th person's name, the priest would say "I will do it on God's name.." but she wont leave him until he pronounced all tongue-twisting names and nakshatras rightly and completes the pooja. My son enjoyed running around the temple and we started off to Kovalam at 12.30pm.

Everyone jumped off the car and rushed to the beach. My son seeing the beach for the first time was observing it so closely. For the first half an hour he was bit scared off getting his legs wet in water and facing the waves. once he got used to it, he was so excited and we all had good fun time for next 2 hours. As hunger struck us we were forced to leave for lunch and had good fun in sea side restaurant. We again played for another hour and reached hotel by 10pm. I wondered how my priorities have changed in my life. during college days I used to play in beach for more than 4 hours without having any food. now all that I was worried about in this romantic place was about my son - if the water would suit him or not, how long he has played in water, what food can I give him etc..etc...

The next day we went to "Neyyar Dam". Kids enjoyed the crocodile park. The lion safari got canceled and we got a chance to have a long walk along a beautiful greenery patch. Everyone of us had so many sweet memories to share and this was the most memorable time of our trip. we left the dam by 4pm and waved bye to Trivandrum by 6pm.

Breaking the Break....

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; It might have been a good knowledge sharing occasions during 19th century but doesn’t hold good anymore as you have so many good sites and books where info is more reliable.

8.40PM IST July 4th, 2008 – a great moment in my life. It’s obvious after listening to the doctor whom you rely 100% at that moment says “We can say anything only after the baby comes out. He should give a good loud cry for everything to go fine”. So I guess my atheist husband would have thought of some God for the first time to rescue us. Fortunately Arya(after days of discussion and thought we decided to have this name. will blog later on this) gave a loud cry…

My son was supposed to see the world on Aug 15th 2008(Indian Independence Day). or hiding in some place, escaping from our duties in search of peace. It is not also about only Idol worship. It involves advanced science of mind and body control and great learning. I would say this book is only for persons who are already into spiritualism understanding the right meaning of it. It would be very difficult to appreciate the great learning Swami Rama is sharing with us in this book, if we are so naïve to the world of spiritualism.

Swami Rama, the founder of Himalayan International Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, takes us back to his childhood days asking all questions like what these yogis do by mediating for so long? Why do they waste their time and energy sitting in some remote place of Himalayas? How did they learn all tantras and mantras and why should they learn this if they are yogis…and many more. His master was so nice to him and gave him time to realize and appreciate the essence of spiritualism by himself. He takes us through each phase of his life in a very interesting way sharing his experiences with great spiritual personalities.

Bharata, one of the Sanskrit names for India comes from Bharati( Bha-knowledge, rati-lover) meaning lover of knowledge. India has got great learned sages who have preached us many ways to achieve enlightenment. Unfortunately we just follow the unwanted part of it and fight for religions and caste which will take us nowhere. Swami Rama explains the various paths to attain enlightenment - Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Raja Yoga, Sri Vidya. He also explains the beauty of Himalayas and other spiritual places in India. I came to know the truth that these sages are highly learned people and they have immense power in them. Spiritualism is not meant only for people who are counting their last days; it is for each and every person who is really keen to live a happy meaningful life. It is the answer to the questions -Who am I? What is my responsibility in this world? What is the meaning of life?

It is a way to understand your inner self. The yoga system of Patanjali with meditation and vegetarian style of living can make a drastic change in our lives.

To summarize it is a book giving intricate details about the various paths of enlightenment in a very light way. It’s a must read for those interested in spiritualism.

Indian Names

Indians generally name their kids after their grandfather/grandmother/father/mother name or choose from god/ goddesses names as if they are their first close relatives!!!!
I personally feel having "Family Names" is a good concept as we can always track down our family tree…but now with the great influence of western culture and always having jobs away from home town, joint families and family get-togethers are a rare happening. I wish the concept of "Family" at least remains in long run. The great boon of Indians is their family values and traditions and this generation should understand the value addition of these and follow that rather getting influenced by just seeing the convenient part of western culture
In this IT era, our interaction with foreigners has increased a lot. It is a great challenge for me to pronounce a Chinese name properly and even few Indian names are tongue – twisters for foreigners. Here is what happens when the name is really long…..
An Indian guy named "Anantharaman Subbaraman" arrived at the New York airport and ended up waiting for his visa for about 2 hours for the authorities to call his name. He got fed up and went to them and asked why they haven’t called his name yet.
They said that they have been calling him for the last 2 hours as "Anotherman Superman"
Another example is the name of my spouse and brother. They have the same name Venkata Subramanian. I know by now both of them are so fed up with their long names. The space would not be enough in any form if they were to write their names with surname which is Venkata Subramanian Nagarajan(29 chars) and Venkata Subramanian Krishnamoorthy(34 chars)….oooffff even I need an energy drink now. :) Could you guess how many names you can form out of this name? Venkat, Venkata, venky, subu, mani, manian, venkatesh, venkatesa and recently nsubrama has joined the list which really sounds so funny…moreover with this name there is always a confusion of middle name and you have to give a detailed explanation of how to spell and call your name….
So future Indian parents please keep short and sweet names to your kids…:)

Our sweet,short trip to Singapore

Our plan to visit Singapore came true this year...
We boarded Indian Airlines 957 at 00:30 hours on 20th may’07 and landed in Changi Airport – Singapore at sharp 7.15AM. We were greeted by our agent with a good smile and he dropped us in Summer View Hotel. After refreshing we decided to explore Chinese food for breakfast. We were happy to see a Chinese restaurant with caption “Purely Vegetarian”, but after entering inside we were confused they had chicken, mutton, prawn etc….i am still not sure as per Chinese what goes as “vegetarian”. After a long explanation to them about "vegetarian food" we successfully got a cup of vegetable noodles. They serve noodles in a big bowl with lots of soup. Now I came to know that these restaurants are for people who wish to become vegetarians. So just to make them feel they are still having non-veg the names of dishes will sound like chicken fry noodles, mutton soup etc, but everything will be made out of TOFU.
We started off for city tour at 11am. We saw the Singapore cricket club, parliament, Supreme Court, Indian national army monument, suntec city, Merlion park, china town and little India. It almost looked like a sister city of Chicago with so many sky scrapers. Roaming around for 3 hours under scorching sun we were so tired by the time we were dropped back in Little India. We again walked for 10min to reach “Komala Vilas” to have good south Indian lunch. Yes the food was good, but I didn’t like the customer service there. I sincerely feel Indians should improve their customer service in hotels set up abroad not just to keep up our country’s name but also to help people who are really interested to try our food. I think they are not bothered as in every place these hotels are crowded by Indians and they earn much more than their targeted income. Still it would be good if they can at least have a menu card, with brief explanation about each food item and hand over the same with a pleasant smile……
We returned back to hotel by 4pm took rest for some time and got ready with great expectation for our Night Safari…We boarded the tram with a strict rule of no flash photography. They took us through animals of Asia, Africa, America and Indo Malayan region. The Fishing cat trail was a scary but interesting trekking. On exiting we felt as if we are walking out of a jungle bidding adieu to wild animal friends. Safari was wonderful.

The next day we started off fresh to Sentosa by 7.30am. With the previous days experience we carried 3 bottles of water with us. We couldn’t find a drinking water tap in any of the place. They had only bottled water (1.25$) or other carbonated drinks. We took MRT from Buggies station to Harbor front. We always grab a cup of fresh juice from one Chinese fruit juice shop. I was not familiar with half of the fruits they had in their shop as those are not available in normal juice shops of India. My favorite was peach with honey. They also had asparagus, aloe Vera and there was a separate shop for herbal juices.
Enjoying the fresh juice we got down at Harbour Front. From there we took cable car to Sentosa. The aerial view of Singapore was awesome especially the port and sentosa entrance. We were the early birds in Sentosa that day as we reached by 9am. There was no long queue anywhere so we could quickly cover major attractions one by one. The butterfly park, 4D magic show, herbal garden, merlion, dolphin show, animals show, underwater world were wonderful. By the time we were out of our excitement and started feeling hungry it was 3pm. We finished our lunch and went to the southern most point of Asia and spent some time in Palawan beach. The highlight was the “Songs of the sea” – an excellent laser show.

The next day we started off to Jurong Bird Park. The park was so green and we enjoyed watching all varieties of birds. We took small breaks here and there due to light showers. The highlight was the Eagle show, I got so scared when a big eagle flew very close to me…the eyes of it really looks like a villain.  it was 4pm by the time we came out of bird park so couldn’t go to zoo. Came back to hotel took some rest and started with full josh to do shopping in Mustafa – the largest shopping mall of Singapore. For every small article they have a huge collection of all brands and varieties. As we get all stuff in India now for a cheaper price we didn’t do much shopping there, being so lazy to carry more stuff on our way back…we spent three hours in the mall and came back to Little India and had food in “Ananda Bhavan”.
The next day we started off early to “Singapore Zoo”.
There are so many interesting things to be learnt from animals and birds.
Yes I am not joking, the team work of elephants, parental care shown by Penguins (check out “March of the Emperor’ movie), kangaroos, the struggle of fawns to stand up in its own legs within 20 minutes of its birth, all these made me wonder if we humans can compete with them in these aspects. There are certain bad aspects too – laziness of lion (don’t know why it was called “King of the jungle”), eating their own species in extreme hunger situation, polygamy etc. we walked a lot seeing all trails and it was good fun especially with orangutans. They are more like us  or we are more like them. When the trainer says smile, it gives a big smile with its horrible big teeth. They snatch food from each other, hit them, the very next moment hug and start playing with each other. The highlights were the elephant show and animal show. We started off from zoo by 6 pm and went to china town and purchased few varieties of herbal tea. The shop keeper was so good and tried explaining us the features of each variety with great difficulty in English. We walked around the town for couple of hours and came back to hotel.
We missed the cruise ride, singapore science centre,DHL Balloon ride. hope to make it up in our next trip:)
The next day with so much of difficulty we forced ourselves to leave the beautiful city.
If they can maintain that small city in such an excellent way, we can do much better if only our politicians can learn the best policies followed by them and implement it in their motherland.
Refer this site to plan your singapore trip.

60 years of independence

INDIA
I feel I should live a successful and happy life which should give me immense joy when I look back at it, during my 60s...This holds good for any country too....
Is every Indian happy on this grand historical day of the country....stepping into 61st year of independence....I am sure you would be hearing a big NO from at least 80% of Indians...remaining 20% might be deprived from so many things that they don’t get a feeling of living in independent India.
Are we happy looking at our history since Independence. I really doubt if our syllabus is updated with at least the 10 years of post-independence happenings. Can our ministers show any state/national plan which was executed successfully on time in the last 20 years...Do we have a clear plan for the next 20 years....
All NEWS channels, even economists, industrialists predict India is shining, growing, would be a super power in 2020....(???!!!) It would be a day dream unless the basic building blocks of the society changes. Only when Castes and Corruption are eliminated from our social block we can think of development. We have misused our freedom to a great extent, being lead in that path by our "so called" great leaders of the nation who ruled/are ruling after independence. Freedom to encroach others land, freedom to kill/fight anyone at any place, freedom to break rules, freedom to give/receive bribe, freedom to threaten people to vote for them....Are we proud of having such a freedom...
Inspite of all these drawbacks India's GDP growth is 9% (2005/06). Thanks to the hard work of all Entrepreneur's whose ...Though the cheap back office work in IT is a major contributor, gradually Knowledge and Business consultancy services is also growing.
But what is government's contribution in infrastructure development. It sounds so silly when you hear news like "if you have broken rules in construction, you can pay penalty and escape from government's clutches"...few questions to the government.
-- Why can’t you enforce strict rules and stop corruption. Is it because all politicians are thriving only on their earnings gained through corruption?
-- Why can’t you improve the education system in government schools to make them par with private schools or fund economically downtrodden people rather running behind reservations?
-- Why don’t you think of mass production using the extensive man power we have in the country...
-- Why don’t you learn the good things from western countries apart from blindly following their unwanted cultures?
--why don’t they take any action on controlling the ever growing population....
When great persons like Dr.Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh with their great position and power can only give lengthy inspiring speeches, I can only write lengthy blogs cribbing about our country.... One aspect which I could feel happy about is though we fight among ourselves we don’t indulge in terrorism or poke our nose in others business as some of the super powers do….Wish it continues...
Hope to see a better India in near Future. I usually enjoy listening to FM Radio everyday morning and I am a great fan of Vasanthi(best RJ for the year). I like her for maintaining liveliness throughout her program and the smart topics she chooses everyday for discussion.
But today was the first day i listened to my favorite songs in my ipod....
wow it was great...especially when i heard "Kaatzrin mozhi..." i forgot i was surrounded by hundreds of people rushing to office to face just another day of their life...
i could hear even the sounds made by the smallest instruments in spite of the Bangalore's noise pollution...
The best way to beat the blues of Bangalore traffic is to listen to music when you travel...rather cribbing about it....
Make the best use of music energy.....

Risky life

With the little rainfall that showered few days before all the electric posts in Bangalore have inclined to another 10 degree.
Its really painful and scary to see those slanting poles which poses a great threat to fall at any time.
Hope the ministers in charge of it and the sub contractors who implement it realize that even their kith and kin who are staying here are posed to the same threat as the normal people. why cant they assure 100% quality in such very important infrastructure facilities...
Hope a great revolution happens and corruption in India completely vanishes.

A very Special Day–June 28th-Appa/Amma Wedding Day

In the world of continuous cribbing to have better things, and as the better thing always seems to be in others hand, we need to sit back and relish few of the best things that has been gifted to us in your life. Beautiful nature, your birth as a capable human being, air, water etc…
Out of all, the greatest gift is our “Parents”. Good the creator decided not to give control to us in selecting our Parents. I am so grateful to the Almighty for gifting me with wonderful parents.
My parents are my first best teachers and my source of great inspiration. Even now I have a new lesson to learn from them everyday.
The 20th century parents in India were not so broad minded and they were torn between their tradition and the incoming western influence. As my father was in army we had strict rules at home, right from waking up early, being clean, following healthy diet etc. (we always had enough reasons to break these rulesJ).
My Dad is my first hero – be on the day when he gets me ice cream for scoring first rank, taking us for our favorite movie adjusting his work schedule (which was a very rare event in our family), taking me with him during his morning walks, encouraging me to go for my basketball match when I had four stitches in my forehead, motivating me to make my own decisions in my life – right from selecting my dress to deciding my higher studies to selecting my partner, being strict to me but in a nicer way when I do mistakes, giving full freedom to my thoughts and actions which few dads were doing in 20th century. I admire him the most when I listen to his childhood stories and his great struggle to come up in his life. I would be surprised when he promptly asks “Are you ok Sumi?” when I have a very slight cold or I am little upset that too over phone. The only thing which I disagree with him is his tensed way of doing things. I am still not able to compete with him in being perfectionist in all the tasks I do.
His aim was to give the best to his children and he has given more than that to us.
My Mom – she is the binding force of our family. As my Dad was in military he stayed in his camp areas which usually would be in north India, whereas we stayed with our mom in south India. I could experience the pain which my parents were undergoing for more than 10 years for our sake when I stayed in US for 8 months away from my husband. At least I had the luxury of online chat, mail etc but her only means of communication was snail mail which would take two weeks to reach my dad and it would be more than a month when she would get a reply for her mail.
Still my mom managed the situation in an excellent way. She is the best finance manager I have ever seen. Without all the current facility of internet, phone banking she used to keep track of her accounts in a perfect way. On any day any time she could give the mini statement of our bank account including her investment, would be profit/expenditure details... :) really amazing, even with all these facilities it is a great struggle for me to manage my finance!!!! I could discuss anything under the sky with her, be it a simple Recipe or Ragas, Yoga or politics. The best part I admire in her is her great adaptability. I disagree with her attitude of worrying too much for small things, which she has stopped doing it nowadays. It always feels great to listen to the melodies of Illayaraja. Shreya goshal’s voice adds feather to the maestro’s work.
It’s a great treat to all music lovers but actual "Cheeni Kum" for south Indians as we have already listened to these songs. Hope we get to hear more classics from Illayaraja.
I watched "Life in Metro"…I wonder if the life style in India has become so bad or the director could only look at the other side of our society. What was his point in taking this movie – bringing awareness to this generation youth and family persons? He might have done it in a much better way!!!!!
I didn’t enjoy the movie at all as there were no aspects of fun in the movie. Eagerly waiting for Shivaji – The BOSS, for two reasons, first one is I am a great fan of Shankar movies for its grandness and its theme, second I liked the acronym BOSS which stands for – Bachelor of Social Service….wow great idea Sankar-ji….

Dream come true...

The best part of my stay in US was my dance classes. i enjoyed each and every moment of my dancing...I still remember my childhood days dance class where my teacher(Smt.BalaSubbalakshmi) used to make us dance a single step for more than 20 times. it is because of her effort and my mothers motivation that i developed great interest in dance, but I couldnt complete the course as our family shifted to other place.
Finally after 17 years I could continue my dance in US. Meenakshi my guru here was very supportive and encouraging. with all her motivation I learnt new dances with full enthusiasm . hats off to all my dance class mates. we had good fun in all our classes...
March 2nd,2007 is a very special day in my life now - the day i performed my solo maiden dance performance in Madison,US.
http://www.kalaanjali.com/events/event_details/2007/03/02/index.html
I wish I could continue this great art throughout my life.
Jaya TV is doing a great work to promote classical dance through their "Tha ka dhi mi tha" program. Let not the fruit of action be thy motive, nor let thy attachment be for inaction. Perform action, being steadfast in Yoga abandoning attachment and balanced in success and failure. Evenness of mind is Yoga.

Control Raga-dvesha, obstructors of the spiritual path. Do your own duty well. Control
desire and anger-the enemies of wisdom. Master first the senses. Kill this enemy-desire by
restraining the self by the Self and by knowing Him who is superior to intellect.

With the self unattached to external contacts he finds bliss in the Self: with the self engaged in the meditation of Brahman he attains endless bliss. The enjoyments that are born of contacts are only generators of pain, for they have a beginning and an end, O son of Kunti (O Kaunteya); the wise do not rejoice in them.

Let a man lift himself by his own Self alone, let him not lower himself; for the Self alone is
the friend of oneself and this Self alone is the enemy of oneself. The Self is the friend of the self
for him who has conquered himself by the Self, but to the unconquered self, this self stands in the position of an enemy like the external foe.

Yoga becomes the destroyer of pain for him who is moderate in eating and recreation, who
is moderate in exertion in actions, who is moderate in sleep and wakefulness. Little by little let
him attain quietude by intellect held in firmness; having made the mind established in the Self, let him not think of anything.

Brilliant Parallel :)

OLD VERSION...
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant's a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
NDTV, BBC, CNN show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. The World is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Arundhati Roy stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house. Medha Patkar goes on a fast along with other grasshoppers demanding that grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter. Amnesty International and Koffi Annan criticize the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the grasshopper. The Internet is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance). Opposition MP's stage a walkout.Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among ants and grasshoppers.
Lalu Prasad allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the 'Grasshopper Rath'.
Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act [POTAGA]", with effect from the beginning of the winter.
Arjun Singh makes Special Reservation for Grass Hopper in educational
Insititutions & in Govt Services.
The ant is fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.
Arundhati Roy calls it "a triumph of justice". Lalu calls it 'Socialistic Justice'. CPM calls it the 'revolutionary resurgence of the downtrodden' Koffi Annan invites the grasshopper to address the UN General Assembly.
Many years later...The ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi billion dollar company in silicon valley.100s of grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India ...
As a result loosing lot of hard working ants and feeding the grasshoppers India is still a developing country...... No one would go and stay with the richest Mother available if their Mom is not doing well. But we don’t mind leaving our motherland if someone else provides more comfort, good job and more money. It has become life time achievement for many to come out of their land and earn more for their survival. Only those people are applauded and appreciated. The cost of this realization is too high. They sacrifice so many things and miss so many enjoyments which come without any pain in their motherland. Some miss to enjoy their precious present life just to achieve their great goal of getting their job in abroad. I would call it as escapism. The real challenge is to face the tough competition in your own motherland and win over every situation. Learn the good things from the developing countries, implent it in your land and feel happy with the success. I wonder how the financial ministers of developing countries feel so proud of the increasing FDI without bothering about the percentage of their fellowmen staying abroad. Probably I am yet to master myself in economy!!! The politicians never take any steps to stop the brain drain. This is just a topic in schools and colleges to win prizes in debate. The winner of the competition would have ended up working for an MNC in a developed country.
The NRAs might think they are leading a happy life, but being an alien for about 6 months I feel it is life without soul. Yes you are thrown apart from your own space. You tend to forget your basic family block. You are forced to cling on to the available persons of your community. However hard you and the citizens of the developed countries try you can’t get into a bond with each other. You confuse your kids with two different cultures. Your mind still worries about the happenings in your motherland. So many and so forth…..
But these people feel it is far better to lead a life without soul than to go back to their motherland which can’t provide proper basic facilities, good infrastructure and all things to make up a quality life unless they are forced to get out of the foreign land. The politicians are so bothered about their position and wealth than the country’s development. No measures to control the population, no actions to reduce poverty. The so called great leaders out from famous foreign colleges can give a splendid speech about the country’s culture and development. But they are just puppets in the hands of their alliances that don’t even have a single educated person in their party. No master plan to see the country in a better position in years to come. Democracy doesn’t say you need to be crazy in ruling the country.
NRAs need to be appreciated for bringing in the best things they have learnt in the foreign land to their motherland. They are the major contributors for all non-profit organizations to develop down trodden kids.
The shame is not on the aliens, but on the country that don’t bother to call their children back with better offers. The government can give many reasons as financial deficit, natural calamities etc., but the reality is it lacks a good leader who can take up the country to a better position.
I can’t take this life of an alien anymore and I am waiting to go back to my motherland with a hope to see the best leader soon.

Life's most precious moments

I got moved by the movie 'World Trade Centre'. Why should innocent people be punished for the selfish interests of some people. I never get an answer for this and I believe there are many sources throughout the world who dont want anyone to get an answer for this. In the past few years there have been more of natural and man made calamities. Has the technology and man power developed so much that we could trouble ourselves to the maximum.!!!!
Everyday begins with the rush to be in office at 8am, you get loaded with tasks that you dont even remember your family members till the clocks tick 5pm. you struggle a lot to leave the office by 6pm and rush to home. you are happy but you dont express it and start cribbing about the bills, dinner, cleaning, washing etc. force yourself to finish off all your duties and go to bed with no smiling face.
why do we need to have such a mechanical life. cant we take time to enjoy what we are doing or cant we do only things that you enjoy to do.!!!!
why dont you give time for yourself to express. Then what difference does it make to be an animal and a human being. I feel animals express their feeling better than us. now dont say the reason that I dont get time. you have to take time to express your feelings. you can give extra time to take up new assignments, watch your favourite match, movie...then why dont you get time to express yourself. that is just because you feel it is not necessary.

but as this movie says you will never know what you are going to face the very next moment.
so why not be happy and keep everyone around you happy.
stop cribbing, maintain work life balance, enjoy your time with family, go to bed and wake up everyday with a good cheerful smile.

Live everyday with great happiness.

Interesting websties

http://www.kamat.com/
This is an excellent site which gives an extensive records of Indian history.
Biographies of great Indians, details about our vedic period, types of ancient architecture, painting etc.

http://www.personalmba.com/
Would you like to gain the knowledge of an MBA graduate without joining the course. I feel people believe in the power of so-called "GOD" than they believe in themselves and they have ample time to waste standing in long queue and they enjoy being crushed in that.

Iam not an atheist. Iam a person who strongly believes on destiny and the supernatural power that really controls us. But after my recent visits to Tirupathi, Darmastala, Udipi, Kollur now I feel I could pray peacefully at home rather going to these temples.

I appreciate the temple assocation who try to manage the crowd(min 50people/hour visit these temples and it takes min 2 hours to finish the darshan). Still government should take more initiative to preserve and maintain these temples.
especially in Darmastala the temple is maintained in an excellent way and the "anna thana sala" is very neat.

After my visits to different places in last two months I am now wondering is there anything called "Tourism Department" in India. There are no facilities available to the tourists in any of the tourist spots, no proper sign boards, no proper explanation about the history and beauty of the place....
If we could properly maintain our historical buildings/temples and advertise it in the right way India would be the top tourist place. I bet we cant see such an artistic work which is very much complicated in any part of the world.

Hope it happens soon....

Belur & Halebid Temples

We reached Belur at around 2pm. It was a bright sunny day. There were no sign posts to guide us to the temple. I was bit frustrated with the way our tourism department works. Anyway all these frustrations and the scorching sun was ignored when we went inside the temple.
I was overwhelmed by the mix of architecture. The entrance of the temple(the gopuram) was in Dravidian style. There were small shrines in Jain Architecture and the main temple is in a pure Koysala Architecture. The temple has three gates which leads to the main mandap. There is a circular platform before the main God. It is said that the princess used to perform dance in this platform for God. The temple is named as "Chennakeshava" which means handsome Vishnu. Each and every sculpture in the temple was done with utmost dedication and perfection. I feel even the masters of the master of arts could find no fault in these sculptures. The artists of those days were highly intellectual. They have portrayed the ancient history, life style, culture that prevailed during those days. It took 100 years to finish this temple.

The temple is designed as per vaastu. There is a deep pond, food offering place, Lord Ram temple, miniature model of the main temple, devi temple, a lengthy corridor.
There were two things that surprised us.
1) A tall pillar that was supported just on its corners and was being held by gravitational force. We couldnt imagine how they erected it during those time when there were no cranes and good construction equipments.
2) A pillar in the main temple was rotatable.

The pillars in the main temple had lots and lots of designs engraved on it. It is said that the existing bangle and tyre designs are taken from this pillar designs.
There was nandi in groundnut size and ganesha in a pulse size.
The stones of the pillars are so polished and shinining even after hundreds of centuries. The design of the outer structure was excellent. All the corners were triangle shaped and had three layers.
The design was very complicated and just shows the excellence of the architect.
The expressions of the sculptures were carved so beautifully. The bottom three layers has rows of elephants, horses and warriors.

One section is for depicting the civic life which has beautiful sculptures of ladies with various hair styles, in different dance poses.
Other section has all sculptures of deities. The narasimha avathara sculpture was astonishing.
Even a day will not be enough to appreciate all this sculptures.
I was wondering how the artists of those days got such a perfection. When I saw the temples surrounding the main temple, I got the answer for that. It was through streneous practice they have attained this perfection. In the miniature model we could see how they have gradually got their perfection.

Halebid is also a Hoysala style temple which is older than this. The style and works remains same. The only difference is this has big sculptures in its outer wall and belur has many smaller ones.

We returned back nourished with the excellence of ancient architecture. Even today the beauty of the temple and the gracefulness of the sculptures are in my mind.

Cool Saturday

I was bouncing with joy when I reached home last friday ready to face the weekend.
My joy doubled when Venkat gave me a surprise about our trip to Sravana Belagola, Belur and Halibidu.Dad,Mom and myself were charged up and started doing all arrangements for the trip.
We started our trip on Saturday morning 5.30am. We reached Sravana Belagola at around 8.30am. Sravanabelagola means 'The monk on the top of the hill'. They had the facility of carrying old people so my mom took advantage of that. Dad, Venkat and myself started our trecking to the top of the hill through 614 steps. We saw the huge statue of Lord Mahavir. It is said to be the worlds tallest free standing statue with a height of 58 foot and 8 inches. Though I felt bit odd to see such a huge naked statue, when viewed from artistic feel its a real master piece.
Its really amazing to visualize the way they could have constructed such a structure some 10 centuries before when there were no high fi equipments to help them in their activities. People were doing poojas and abhishekas to lord. After an hour we started coming down the 614 steps. It was fun for me as you get a feel which you cant explain when u descend fast through the steps :) The four persons who were carrying mom in the doly(name for the chariot in which they carry a person) were so fast and their concentration and control were superb.
Then we had a good breakfast and then started off to Belur.....

Lok Paritran

Finally I have got one good news to be blogged this time.
Five IITians, all in their 20s, have decided to take up mainstream politics. Hope the same with you all.

Jai Hind.

President's presence

Hi,
yesterday our respected President visited bangalore. along with him several foreign and indian celebrities were there. Mr.President made a statement that to make india a developed nation we should concentrate on five major sectors namely agriculture and food processing, education and healthcare, infrastructure development, information and communication.
this reached people only after a day, the first thing that caught people was the traffic jam in all main roads of bangalore. and the blame was put on President's visit. it is so easy to point figures on others for your mistake. so many were caught in airport road traffic and missed their flights and important assignments in office.
nowadays iam not feeling bad or getting furious about this poor infrastructure. In India everyone has got escapism as their main policy, only when everyone get the responsibility and everyone feels it is my duty to do something for the society India will take the first step towards its development.
everyone are ready to compromise, compromise everything, their basic needs, comforts, you dont have water still no plans for proper drainage and rain water harvesting, no proper infrastructure still no proper plans for city infrastructure. it takes 2 hours to reach my home...oops thats fine yaar it have 3 hours for me..so is it a statement with pride...!!!!!
still people are ready to take it than fighting against it.!!!!!

Incredible India

Hi folks,
I was thinking why to put all my thoughts in a blog as it would be a waste of my time and others. that is the reason for this long break.
But now I really feel i should put in all my grievances in some channel which can reach n number of people.(Thanks to my good friend who suggested me to do this)
So its here for all Indians(Hope all Indians come up to the position of having a computer in their home soon with a high speed bandwith connection.)
Its also for everyone in the world as iam planning to make it public as I feel the learning never ends in anyone's life. So we all need to share the best and worst of all places so that we make the worst in all places to the best.

So here we go, what motivated me so much to share my ideas to you all.
I was in Maidenhead,UK last month. I have also visited london earlier and i was so astonished by the way the city was planned. But I thought it is possible only for one city, they cant have such a good system throughout the country. I convinced myself that the same is not possible in India because of our population and economy.
But this time I could see an excellent infrastructure in maidenhead also. There was good connectivity within the city and to all other cities. The road and railway network was excellent.
Then a very big question arised in me, WHY THE SAME IS NOT HAPPENING IN INDIA.
The moment i landed in airport i could see people crowding in all places, shouting, making the place dirty as they wish.
NO RULES NO DISCIPLINE.NO CLEANLINESS.
I think Indians have forgotten these words, Sorry,Please,Queue,Can I help you.
No one really minds or has the time to stand back and even help old people. worse thing is they just dash them and dont mind to say sorry also and just pass off.

What is the reason behind all these things. After long hours of thought i finally concluded and started hating this seven letter word FREEDOM. you have freedom for everything in India.
you have freedom to cross the signal line, you have freedom to hurt others through your words and actions, you have freedom to bribe anyone and so on and on.
even lakhs or crores of cloned Gandhi cant help India if each individual does not realise his/her responsibility.

You can ask me what you are going to achieve by just writting this. Unfortunately iam not an IAS officer to implement all my plans and prove our country's politicians -Look we can also do such things in our motherland.

so i will keep blogging my ideas as well as get ideas from you.
We can all find a means to get our thoughts to action soon. I am sure it will not take so long to see our dreams come true soon in India.

so friends you also share your ideas with me. people who have visited foreign countries dont just feel bad seeing the traffic and poor infrastructure in India, instead share how things are happening in foreign countries and what and how can we improve things in india.

Its in our hands to make our India an Incredible India.
If it is our duty to take care of our mother it is equally our duty to take care of our motherland too.
Expecting good response from all of you.
JAI HIND.

Yeh laga Sixer...

After hitting the sixer (6 months) of marriage life.

So whats up after marriage…
No time to chat with your friends or walk out for shopping when u feel like
No time to hang on with Harry Potter novel or sing your favorite melodies.
No time to even blog for sometime….;-))
Huh……….
Is marriage such a great punishment…. tearing you away from your sweet home

The answer from me would be a real big NO
All the time that whiled away after marriage brought me

Many new relationships I would cherish upon.
Many new commitments I would act upon.
Many events of struggle I would learn upon.
Many more moments of joy (and spicy sorrows too)

Marching towards
A new life with a gifted
Relationship to
Reinvest your thoughts, words and action to set an
Ideal family with
All values of life rooted in for the next
Generation to look upon and
Excel in their fight for Existence.

For me this would mean marriage.
Is it a way to mesmerize the ever-happy bachelors and spinsters to get into the trap of family life…definitely no…. keep enjoying your bachelor life…when u get bored of it why don’t you try for a change…. when u really have a better option
Howz it???????????
